Yom HaShoah: Holocaust Memorial Day

Never forget…

For the dead and the living, we must bear witness.

~Elie Wiesel

This is a video of survivors at Bergen-Belson singing Hatikva–The Hope.

He sat and watched the piano burn, and he heard the refrain of 6 million voices.

The melody dies, but the sound remains.

Leap before the eyes as the wood is consumed.

Heat crackles and pops and the once-glossy remains crumble in on themselves.

Ebony and ivory disintegrate.

The sound remained–forever ringing in his ears.

6 million voices crying, but the melody gone.

What have I done?

He sat and watched the piano burn. He turned and without a tear he walked away.

The melody gone, but the voices remain.

6 million, but more, so many more.
